Indian head massage, known as Shiro abhyangam, is 30 minute soothing massage of the head and neck to release tension from the mind and create balance in the body.
In Ayurveda, there are 108 vital energy points in the body known as marma points. These are the points through which the energy of Nature’s five elements flows. 31 of these points are located in the head, coinciding with the crossover points where nerves, arteries, veins, cranial bones, and muscles intersect.
Indian head massage uses Marma Point Therapy to activate these points, supporting the brain’s blood circulation and lymphatic flow – releasing toxic chemicals from the brain which is critically important for our physical and emotional health and a big part of Ayurvedic psychology. Indian head massage also releases accumulated in the head, neck, face and shoulders.
It’s used to treat a variety of conditions, such as:
- Alopecia (depending on the condition) and hair problems
- Mood swings
- Headaches and migraines
